Dear Partners,

As we move into the summer, we’re pleased to share several key developments that signal strong momentum across our housing and energy initiatives. From British Columbia to sub-Saharan Africa and the United Arab Emirates, the past month has been about translating vision into action. You could also find more information on our newly replenished website.

British Columbia Projects Gaining Investor Attention

We’ve made substantial progress supporting three residential communities under the Hallō brand—Hallō Nelson, Hallō Revelstoke, and Hallō Pender. Each development represents a strategic involvement on the future of sustainable development in Canada’s high-growth secondary markets.

These communities aren’t just built to meet Step Code 4, the Province’s most rigorous energy efficiency standard, they are designed to exceed it, with high-performance envelopes, low operating costs, and thoughtfully integrated natural settings.

  • Hallō Nelson offers 300 multi-family units and 45 net-zero-ready homes just minutes from the lake and downtown, set within a trail-connected, community-driven plan.

  • Hallō Revelstoke blends alpine access with architectural precision, nestled near national parks and world-class outdoor amenities.

  • Hallō Pender delivers ocean-view residences on the Sunshine Coast, responding to increasing demand for lifestyle-aligned real estate.

Early buyer interest has been strong, and each site presents attractive long-term upside tied to demographic shifts, regulatory incentives, and growing consumer preference for high-efficiency homes.

Energy Infrastructure in Africa: €50 Billion in Motion

Our work with the Green Development Fund continues to grow across 16 African countries, where we’re addressing a €190 billion annual energy investment gap. We’ve structured a targeted €50 billion investment initiative on middle-market commercial and industrial projects (1–5 MW)—a segment with both speed and scalability.

By aligning with local partners and minimizing permitting delays, we’re accelerating solar, hydro, hydrogen, geothermal, and wind to make hybrid energy projects that are socially supportive, economically viable and environmentally essential. Key market allocations include:

  • €9B in South Africa

  • €7.5B in Nigeria

  • €4.5B in Kenya

Funds are distributed across four sectors: solar PV, grid expansion, hydropower, and green hydrogen—each selected for their long-term potential and policy alignment under the EU Green Deal.

IEEE CCECE 2025 Industry Summit at UBC

The Summit is designed to share the latest developments and technology applications in a variety of technological domains including AI, Cybersecurity, Humanitarian initiatives, Wildfire management, Transportation Infrastructure, and Electric Vehicle Charging infrastructure, in addition to sessions centering around entrepreneurship and education.

Ryan Brezzi, CEO and Founder of RRB and GDF, presented to a small group of venture capitalists, investors and subject matter experts to showcase GDF’s sustainable hybrid energy projects in Africa to get a sense of response from the group, to receive feedback, and to build partnerships.

New Thinking on Infrastructure, Law, and Ecology

To complement our project work, we’ve published several thought leadership pieces exploring the intersections of infrastructure design, ecological governance, and capital alignment. These articles speak to a broader shift in how developers, cities, and investors are reimagining growth.

Innovation Building Group High Efficiency Housing

RRB met Rod Nadeau, CEO and Founder of Innovation Building Group which has been a leader in the energy efficiency movement in Canada for the last 40 years. A leader in constructing leading edge, high-performance buildings taking advantage of the latest technology and Canadian construction techniques since the 1980s, their homes heat for between $30-50 per year, which is a 90% reduction in the cost of heating and cooling a home.

Innovation Building Group is sharing its IBG Designs which is a library of building designs based on their best performing buildings they’ve built over the last 12 years. It has been combined into a knowledge library to improve building efficiency, affordability, and ease of construction across the country. It includes the missing middle designs of duplexes and small apartment buildings to help builders transition from building small homes to building mid-rise multi-family buildings utilizing the trades and construction science.

BTY group determined their buildings are 32% cheaper than a code standard multi-family building. In 2017 they teamed up with BCIT Building Science Engineering Department to determine data science to build energy efficient buildings which has helped get the heating and cooling costs down to their extremely low costs.

This is a budding relationship and one which RRB looks forward to solidifying further.

Canada Green Building Council RFSO with RGS Consultants

RGS Consultants is a leader in Zero Carbon building analysis, design and operational emissions management specialized in working with municipal governments.

Together, RGS and RRB are applying to the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) Request for Standing Offers (RFSO) to provide specialized consultant services for Zero Carbon projects nationally. RRB is positioned to lead the financial component of the consultant team.

The purpose of this RFSO is to identify and engage a pool of Subject-Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide expert knowledge and guidance in areas critical to achieving the goals and objectives of CAGBC’s projects, research and learning. The selected SMEs will support CAGBC in developing effective strategies, advancing research, developing and delivering education, and advancing high-performance building standards.
